Facebook Fad: 25 Things

I did this a while back while I was procrastinating at school. It's fun. All you have to do is list 25 fun facts about yourself. I decided to post it here too so all can read, learn, and enjoy.

1. I actually have quite a lot of work I could be doing right now.
2. I will always think there was enough room on the door for both Rose and Jack.
3. The Cingular commercial where the dad goes on a business trip and shows how he has more bars in more places and then comes home to his daughter makes me tear up every time I see it.
4. I love the Olympics with all my heart (especially the Summer ones). I rearranged my schedule so I could watch when Michael Phelps was swimming. I’m going to London 2012 if I can afford it.
5. Since I came home from Ireland, I’ve gotten in the habit of watching way too much TV just because I can.
6. If I like a movie a lot I watch it repeatedly, sometimes even back to back.
7. I know it’s dumb but Mr. and Mrs. Smith is in my top five favorite movies if it’s not #1. I don’t even know why I love it so much. Brad and Angelina are the only celebrity couple I care about.
8. I’ve loved show tunes since my mom checked out the first Broadway Kids cassette tape from the library for me when I was little. My current favorite musical is Spring Awakening and it kills me that I can’t see it because it’s not on Broadway anymore.
9. I tend to latch on to things and obsess about them. For example, last year I watched the first episode of LOST online and then became obsessed with it and finished the first three seasons in about three weeks.
10. I am a Christmas fanatic.
11. When I studied abroad I visited a few other countries and I bought a Harry Potter book in the language of each country I went to. I have #1 in Gaelic, #2 in Portuguese, #3 in French, #4 in Spanish, and #5 in Italian. It’s the only collection besides postcards that I maintained during my travels. I also meant to do keychains, bumper stickers, and playing cards but I sort of forgot and I ended up broke after buying those books anyway.
12. I never plan on moving too far away from my hometown. All I really want to do is teach at the school where I grew up.
13. Traditions mean a lot to me.
14. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I hate my birthday, but I really don’t like it. I used cry the night before because I felt like I missed out on the number I was leaving behind.
15. My Skype icon is my indicator as to whether or not my Internet is working.
16. I got my first dog when I was sixteen and I absolutely adore her. I don’t ever want to own another dog because none will ever be as good as Pepper. She’s a black cockapoo. She doesn’t like me much but that doesn’t matter. I took her to get groomed a few weeks ago and she actually preferred the groomer to me.
17. I have a half.com account but no one ever buys my books even though the prices are really good.
18. My favorite part about the Ravens having a good season is that all the buildings in Baltimore city put up purple lights.
19. I read To Kill A Mockingbird every May because it feels like a Summer book.
20. This semester is the first time in 16 years that I’ve had my own bedroom. I’ve been sharing a room with my sister since she was born and we still share that room at home. I’ve never really known any other way and I don’t mind it.
21. Once I started a list of 100 things I wanted to do before I die but I got bored and only made it to number 15.
22. I love to play board games.
23. My dad wanted to name me Gertrude so he could call me Gertie like the girl from E.T. Instead they used to call me “Kristin Elizabeth Gert Urbanski”. I took the name Gertrude as my Confirmation name to make it more official.
24. My nickname growing up was Krikkit and a few people still call me that.
25. My nickname now is Kurbi and to hear my roommates call me anything different is strange.

Sky Diving T-shirts: A Meaningless Tale

Today at work, I was doing a tie-dye activity with the four-year-old class. The director came out and asked one particular child what he was doing. He excitedly told her, "We're sky diving t-shirts!" What a great job I have.

Fireworks and Rod Serling

Kristin and I have decided that the best way to celebrate the birth of our nation is to stay inside for the greater part of the day and watch The Twilight Zone Marathon on SciFi (soon to be SyFy...how weird). If you have not yet made this a tradition in your family, get on it. It's so worth it. Rod Serling can offer you so many pieces of wisdom, for instance, don't be surprised if you're actually a mannequin who is taking a month to live among humans. It could happen to anyone. And if you find that the Earth has fallen out of orbit and is hurtling towards the sun, try pinching yourself-it could be that the Earth has fallen out of orbit and is hurtling away from the sun, and you were just having a bad dream. And kids, if you have bickering, abusive, or just plain terrible parents, try diving into your nearest swimming pool and going deeper until you reach another world. There, you can help good old Aunt T bake a chocolate cake and hang out with Huck Finn-like characters. Like I said, the marathon is so worth it.

For the rest of the fourth, we'll be in Pennsylvania, hanging with the fam and watching good old fashioned fireworks, PA style. Which is kind of appropriate, seeing as how that's where the Declaration was signed and all. (Another tradition-watching 1776. I know, it was lame in fifth grade, but it grows on you.)
